ANDERSON, S.C. (AP) - A 72-year-old Starr man has been accused of mistreating about 125 dogs on his property in Anderson County.
Donald Black faces up to 240 days in jail and a $2,000 fine if he is convicted on all four charges.
Sheriff's deputies began an investigation last week after a woman complained about a dog she recently bought at a flea market in Anderson County. Investigators said the dog had a virus and had to be euthanized.
Investigators found 153 dogs on 18-acres of land behind rusted fences with little shade and buckets of green water.
Sheriff John Skipper says a veterinarian evaluated the dogs and found medical problems and signs of neglect on 126 of them.
The dogs are being held in the old county animal shelter while they are treated.
