Columbia, SC (WLTX) - On game day Williams Brice Stadium and downtown Columbia are flooded with tens of thousands of fans and before and after the game there is always gridlock traffic.
"Beat the other team and beat the traffic" said Bob Schneider with "The Comet."
"You don't have to walk up and down Assembly Street, you don't have to sit in hours and hours of traffic."
But your traffic problem might be a little easier when you are headed to the stadium and it could help your pocket.
Schneider with the Comet says you can park your car downtown and ride the Gamecock Express to and from the game.
"$3.50 and you get a wristband and they can ride all day on the fixed route system."
Fans can park their cars at two locations; the shuttle will pick you up at Lincoln and Blossom Streets near Colonial Life Arena and at Green and Sumter Streets near the Russell House on USC's Campus.
"We begin about four hours before the game and two hours after the game is over."
"I am hoping to get away from the kids at least one time this season to go to a game so I would take advantage of it," said Stormy Hartley.
Hartley is a big time Gamecock fan and she says the shuttle will not only cut down on traffic; it will make the roads safer as well.
"It will cut down on a lot of problems with drinking and driving around the games."
Schneider says this is a new way to connect the university and Community to the stadium.
"If we can take this and turn around and make a loyal customer from this it is well worth it but we also want to support what is a big event for the downtown community, the university and sports community."
The new routes will be up and running for the first game against the Tar Heels in less than two weeks.
It is also good to note, if your take the Gamecock Express; you can bring your cooler with you on the shuttle.
