Columbia, SC (WLTX) - Angela Bethel and her family got a wake-up like no other when a tree fell on her home early Monday morning.
"We heard something go 'boom, loom, loom' and we jumped up," described Bethel. "We started to hear something cracking like the tree was still falling."
She says it sounded like thunder, but in reality it was a tree that came crashing into her living room and bedroom around 4 a.m. leaving a collapsed porch and blocked exits to the home she has lived in for just three months.
"We had to run out and go out the back window in the back. We had to squeeze out, knock the window out," she said.
Bethel, her husband, son and 11-month-old grandchild all made it out through the window alive, but with a few injuries.
Emergency crews had to help their pets. She says they rescued the family's four puppies that were trapped under the porch.
The family has not tried to enter the home to check all the damage, but Bethel says with the rain continuing to fall she is sure there will be a lot.
"I imagine all our stuff if getting wet, so it's gonna be a mess when we go up in there, all our furniture, T.V. and everything," said Bethel.
Still no matter what they may have lost, Bethel says she is just grateful she and her family made it out alright.
"God was with us, he really was with us," she said.
