Richland County, SC (WLTX) - You'll soon start seeing a new look to the Richland County Sheriff's Department.
Sheriff Leon Lott announced Friday his agency is getting the Ford Interceptor Sedan as its new standard patrol vehicle for the agency. The car replaces the old Crown Victoria.
Lott says the Crown Victoria was a family car modified to be a police car; he says that's not the case with the new vehicle.
"This is designed to be a police car from the all-wheel drive to the brakes, to the engine, everything is designed to be a police car," Lott said.
In addition to a new body type, the vehicles will also sport a new color scheme that no longer includes the silver on the top and hood. By avoiding the two-toned scheme, Lott says the department will save money.
The new cars will be phased in over a period of time. Lott says as the old vehicles become unserviceable, they'll be replaced with the new sedan.
