CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - Panthers wide receiver Steve Smith says he expects more from Carolina's offense now that former offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski is no longer calling the plays.
Carolina's offense struggled last year, including during a 16-12 loss to Seattle, something Smith blames on Chudzinski. The Panthers' offense managed only three points against the Seahawks.
The outspoken Smith said in a conference call Wednesday that Chudzinski, now the Cleveland Browns head coach, was out for himself and his play calling last year was a "power move" to show that he was capable of being a head coach.
Quarterback Cam Newton says the offense has something to prove Sunday against the Seattle defense, saying the first game of the post-Chudzinski era will help the Panthers "find out who we are."
