Newberry, SC (WLTX)- A Newberry County teen is dead after a terrifying train accident.
Newberry police said Chamone McGraw, 16, was walking down the train tracks Saturday night to go visit his grandmother before he was hit by a train.
Authorities said around 6 p.m. he was hit head-on by a train and died from blunt force trauma.
The corner believes he may have not seen or heard the train because he was wearing headphones.
McGraw's brother, Michael Raiford said it's heartbreaking.
"It's devastating for our family," Raiford said. "He just has so many people that cared about him.
The Newberry Corner said the high school student had headphones on while walking down the tracks with his head faced down. His family said it's something he always did.
McGraw leaves behind friends and family members, but also a high school sports team.
"He played football," Raiford said. "He was a well rounded person, full of life."
Raiford also said the town of Newberry and surrounding communities are showing their support.
The coroner said alcohol does not appear to be a factor and the death was ruled as accidental.
Newberry police continue to investigate.
The brother said they are working with a funeral home in Newberry, but no date has been set yet.
