Aiken County, SC (WLTX) - The Savannah River Site is laying off 465 employees as part of their efforts to restructure its workforce.
Savannah River Remediation (SRR), which manages some of the site's operations, announced the move Thursday.
Last month, the Augusta Chronicle reported that SRS was going to have to eliminate 1,550 jobs over a two-year period due to a loss of budget funding.
"I regret that we have to take this step, but I encourage you to avoid the distractions that these workforce changes can cause," Interim SRR President Stuart MacVean wrote to employees.
SRR says employees will receive two weeks pay and will be given a severance package that gives them money based on their years of service.
