A 31-year-old Anderson County man died Sunday after a high-speed pursuit and foot chase from law enforcement.
Iva resident Brad Evans was pronounced dead at AnMed Health after an encounter with police that began as an attempted traffic stop, said Anderson County Coroner Greg Shore
Anderson County deputies attempted to stop a car in the Townville area for reckless driving, said Sheila Cole, public information officer for the Anderson County Sheriff's Office.
The driver led deputies and members of the Highway Patrol on a high-speed chase that topped speeds of 100 miles per hour, Cole said.
The car then crashed into a fence off Knowlandale Drive, just off State 81 north of Starr, said Shore.
Evans attempted to flee on foot and was pursued by both Anderson County Deputies and Highway Patrol officers, Cole said. During the attempt to capture the suspect, officers Tasered him. It was not immediately clear who had employed the Taser, Cole said.
The suspect began to experience a medical emergency, and EMS were called to the scene. Evans was transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 1:06 p.m., Shore said.
An autopsy will be performed today, Shore said.
