Paul Thomas Rawl Jr. (Lexington County Sheriff's Dept.)
Lexington County, SC (WLTX) - Lexington County deputies have arrested a man they say sexually assaulted a woman he held captive for three months inside his home.
Paul Thomas Rawl Jr., 52, is being held on charges of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, criminal domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature, and kidnapping.
The victim in the case was a woman that Rawl knew.
Beginning in July, deputies say Rawl held the woman against her will in the home, sexually assaulting her as many as nine times a day. They say he also beat her with his hands and fists, and shoved her head into the wall.
In at least once instance, officers say he pointed a bow and arrow in the woman's face and told her he was going to kill her.
According to investigators, he kept her inside a bedroom by putting a dresser in front of the door every night so she couldn't escape. In addtion, officers also say he forced her to swallow a Xanax pill every night so she wouldn't be as physically alert. He also programmed his burglar alarm to alert him if any door was opened, and put a recording device in the bedroom.
The woman finally got free by persuading Rawl to take her to a doctor for a physical examination. She then told doctors of the abuse, and after an investigation, officers arrested Rawl Tuesday.
Deputies say Rawl was convicted in 2000 of criminal sexual conduct with a minor with a 12-year-old girl.
