Aiken, SC (WLTX) - Aiken Public Safety officers have arrested two people they say tried to get money by claiming they needed funds to bury their mother.
Officers have charged 21-year-old Kendra Lachell Morris and Zachary Lacasey Sims with obtaining money by false pretenses and soliciting without a license.
According to officers, they two were carrying signs on a road in Aiken that read, "help me burry [sic] my mom, please donate." Police say they would take the money and put it in plastic Halloween pumpkins.
According to deputies, the suspects were able to take in several hundred dollars.
Officers say the suspects each gave a different name and funeral home of the person they were raising money for. Officers say they checked with the funeral homes, and found no one on record there that had died.
