James Watson, Catherine Ammons
Kershaw County, SC (WLTX) - A Kershaw County man and woman have been sentenced to 20 years in prison after entering a plea on child abuse charges.
Catherine Ammons and James Watson entered what's known as a "Alford plea," which means they don't admit guilt but accept the punishment of the court.
Back in April of 2012, the two were arrested after doctors at Kershaw Health said Ammon's four-year-old daughter had broken arms, a broken leg, and other injuries.
The child was treated in a pediatric intensive care unit. She has since been adopted by a family and is living outside of the state.
"Hopefully Lizzy can heal both physically and emotionally from this horror," Sheriff Jim Matthews said in a statement. "She is now with a loving family and from all accounts is doing well. Ammons and Watson can never really pay for what they did to that little girl. I am relieved that they are going to serve long prison sentences."
