Columbia, SC (WLTX) - This week's fire at a Richland County apartment complex has been ruled arson.
The Richland County Fire Marshal's Office said Wednesday that the blaze at the Ashton Apartments in the St. Andrews neighborhood was intentionally set. The Richland County Sheriff's Department will investigate the case.
The fires took place around 9 p.m. Monday in buildings 201 and 205.
One of the buildings was gutted during the fire. Several people jumped from some of the apartments to get to safety, and firefighters had to rescue at least one person from a balcony.
The Red Cross said the fire displaced 17 people.
