SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (AP) -- Summerville High School's longtime football coach John McKissick has won the Don Shula High School Coach of the Year award.

McKissick's honor was announced Friday in Indianapolis, where the Super Bowl will take place on Sunday. McKissick recently finished his 60th season leading the Green Wave. He has 594 career victories, the most of any coach at any level of football.

McKissick was nominated for the award by the NFL's Carolina Panthers. He plans to attend the game between the New England Patriots and New York Giants.

The 85-year-old McKissick will have a chance next season to reach the 600-win mark at Summerville.
