Clemson, SC (WLTX) --- In case you were wondering where Dabo Swinney comes down on Clemson moving to the Big 12, the coach left no doubt where he stands on the subject.
Swinney says a move by Clemson from the ACC to the Big 12 would be the worst move for the football program. He also says he has been forced to spend time assuring recruits the Tigers have no plans to leave the ACC.
The subject of Sammy Watkins also came up. Swinney says the punishment handed down to the rising sophomore will not come until the season opener because Swinney wants to see how Watkins performs through the summer. Watkins has some obligations he needs to meet and that is what ultimately will determine his punishment.
Swinney hinted that Watkins would miss at least one game after he was charged in May with possesion of a controlled substance and simple possession of marijuana. Swinney says there is a high-end punishment and a low-end and the end result will be up to Watkins.
The coach spoke at the first day of his annual high school football camp.
