Blythewood, SC (WLTX) --- The best golfers in the Midlands teed it up Thursday as the Midlands Chevy Dealers City Golf Tournament held the first of three days of competition at the Columbia Country Club.

Defending champion Will Godrey, a Dreher graduate who will play golf at Francis Marion, had one of those disasterous rounds. Not only did he shoot a 10-over-par 82, part of Will's problems can be traced to his early holes when his glasses broke. With the help of tournament director Bobby Foster, he was able to fix his glasses, but not before it affected his round in the most negative way.

Godfrey was paired with 11-time city champion Steve Lieber. The former USC golf coach who had a brief stint on the PGA Tour fired a two-under par 70. Liebler closed out his round with a birdie on the par-4 9th.

The tournament will run through Saturday at the Columbia Country Club.
