(WLTX) --- For the first time in his career, Adam Scott has a 54-hole lead in a major tournament.
Thanks to a 2-under par score, Scott is at 11-under, four shots clear of Brandt Snedeker and former U.S. Open champion Graeme McDowell.
Tiger Woods shot an even-par round three and is five back of Scott.
Snedeker and Scott are vying for their first win in a major championship. McDowell and Woods have the experience of winning majors. Last month, McDowell was closing in on his second U.S. Open win, but lost to Webb Simpson.
Woods has not won a major since 2008, but with three wins in 2012, he was expected to be in the mix at this, the third major of the season.
Whoever wins the Open Championship will carry a ton of momentum into Kiawah Island for the PGA Championship which is just a few weeks away.
The first PGA Tour major to be held in the Palmetto State will be played August 9-12 at the Ocean Course.
Of the men battling for the Claret Jug, Snedeker will have a lot of people in the Lowcountry rooting for him. Snedeker is the 2011 RBC Heritage Champion and tournament officials at Harbour Town would love for Snedeker to return in 2013 with a major championship on his resume.
