Columbia, SC (WLTX) --- Two middle school football players have been invited to the elite Top Gun Camp at Football University Camp in Virginia.
Chylon Thomas and Montre Miller will attend the camp which begins July 23rd and runs through July 25th. Football University is an invitation-only camp for the nation's top athletes. The camp has produced top collegiate talent such as Cliff Harris, the 2010 PAC-10 Defensive Player of the Year at the University of Oregon.
The camp's staff includes both former professional and collegiate coaches. The boys both hope they'll pick up a thing or two to help improve their game.
"To get the experience......to help me down the road. To high school...to college and hopefully to playing on Sunday's ," Miller, a wide receiver said.
The two excel in the classroom, too. Both students have been A-B Honor Roll students. Their balance of athletics and academics comes from the guidance of their parents.
"I've always told Montre, 'It's school first, athletics second,'" said Sonya Miller, Montre's mother.
And their work ethic is second to none. Just ask their youth coach Nate Gantt.
"What separates these guys is the way they're able to put in extra hours after practice," Gantt explains. "When we finish practice they want to stay around another thirty minutes to an hour to do another drills."
