Columbia, SC (WLTX) - USC backup quarterback Tanner McEvoy has left the team and will seek a transfer to another school.
Head Coach Steve Spurrier announced McEvoy's departure in a statement Tuesday night.
"The Gamecock coaching staff and I wish Tanner all the best, as he continues his collegiate career elsewhere," said Spurrier.
The news comes a little more than a week after McEvoy was arrested in North Carolina on charges of speeding and driving after consuming while under age 21. He was released on $250 bond.
McEvoy, a 6-6, 209-pound redshirt freshman quarterback from Hillsdale, N.J. was listed on the fourth-team entering the fall. He did not attend the Gamecocks' practice on Tuesday morning. McEvoy did, however, participate in the team's media day this past Sunday.
