(WLTX) --- The drama surrounding the Clemson commitment of defensive end Robert Nkemdiche hit a peak Thursday with the news that he has backed off his pledge and has opened up his recruiting again.

Nkemdiche had been on board with the Tigers since June. His mother, who lives in Nigeria, reportedly has been upset with that decision because he wants her sons to play together. Robert has an older brother who plays at Ole Miss.

Now that Nkemdiche is back on the market, schools such as Alabama, Ole Miss, Florida and Southern Cal are among the schools vying for his services.

His coach, who happens to be Dabo Swinney's college roommate, said he is still interested in the Tigers. But clearly, the Tigers face an uphill climb to land the top prospect in the country.
