Columbia, SC (WLTX) --- The fifth-ranked Gamecocks scored eight unanswered runs to beat Liberty 8-7 in the final inning in the first game of a double-header Sunday.
Kyle Martin belted a liner at Liberty pitcher Josh Richardson with the Gamecocks down two. Following a bad throw on the play, Shon Carson and Graham Saiko would cross the plate to give South Carolina the 8-7 victory.
USC trailed 7-3 in the bottom of the eighth before the furious rally began. After a base hit and three walks, the Flames lead diminished to three runs. Freshman Max Shrock's RBI would bring the Gamecocks within two.
Former Brookland-Cayce left-hander Adam Westmoreland picked up the win.
In the second game of the day, the Gamecocks fell to the Liberty 3-2.
