When Amy McDonaugh was 11, she was diagonsed with Arteriovenous Malformation (AVM), a condition that causes blood vessels to tangle in the cheek.
McDonaugh lost essentially three-fourths of her vision when doctors shot alcohol and silicone into her cheek to save her life.
Legally blind, McDonaugh has not let her disability keep her from living a fulfilling life.
In 2009, she went for her first run and has been hooked ever since. This Sunday, she will be in New York City competing in a half marathon and in April, she will run in the Boston Marathon.
