Columbia, SC (WLTX) - USC Head Basketball Coach Dawn Staley is headed to the hall of fame.
The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame announced that Staley will be among 12 new members who will be inducted on September 8th in Springfield, Massachusetts.
Also part of this year's class are former NBA star Gary Payton and Louisville Head Coach Rick Pitino.
Before she got into coaching, Staley was widely regarded as one of the greatest women's basketball players of all time. She was a USA TODAY National High School player of the year, and a three-time All-American at Virginia. She won the Olympic Gold Medal in 1996, 2000, and 2004 as a player, and in 2008 as an assistant coach.
In 2004, she carried the American flag in the Opening Ceremony of the Athens Olympics.
She also was a five-time All-Star in the WNBA.
Since coming to Carolina, she has led the Gamecocks to a 92-66 record, including two straight NCAA tournament appearances and a Sweet 16 in 2012.
