(WLTX) --- After the most successful football season in school history, White Knoll has hired a former assistant who is no stranger to setting new standards.

Dean Howell, who for the past four seasons was in charge of the A.C. Flora program, will take over the Timberwolves' program after former coach Gordon Walters resigned to accept a positon at Waccamaw.

A 17-year coaching veteran, Howell led A.C. Flora to a 37-12 mark. In 2012, the Falcons were 11-2 after a 2011 campaign that saw them reach the Lower State Championship game for the first time in school history.

Howell was on the inaugural staff at White Knoll in 2000 under current Flora assistant Mark Cagle. Howell also worked at Brookland-Cayce and Chapin as an assistant before taking over the A.C. Flora program.

Howell will also serve as the school's athletics director.
