Anaheim, CA (WLTX) --- Less than 24 hours after being called up to the big leagues, former Gamecock pitcher Michael Roth earned a win in his MLB debut with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. The Angels won 5-4.
Roth was summoned in relief work in the Angels game against the Astros. In two full innings out of the bullpen, Roth struck out four batters. He did not allow a hit or a run. He threw 15 strikes on 22 pitches.
The former USC ace had only pitched 27 innings of minor league ball with double-A Arkansas before being called up Saturday.
Roth became the first Angel reliever to win his major league debut since Curt Brown in 1983.
