Lexington, SC (WLTX) - Lexington School District One has hired Josh Stepp to be the new athletics director and head football coach at Lexington High.

The district announced the hiring Wednesday. Stepp officially accepted the position Tuesday.

For the last three seasons, he had been head coach at Dreher High School. In 2012, he led the team to an 8-2 record, their best mark in a decade.

A former Shrine Bowl quarterback at Pelion High, Stepp originally went to Furman for college, but transferred to Newberry. He set several passing records for the team, and led them to their first league championship in 2006.

After several assistant coaching jobs at Pelion, Blythewood High, and Spring Valley, he went to Dreher.
