Columbia, SC (WLTX) - Former USC running back Marcus Lattimore now knows where he'll begin the next chapter of his football comeback.

The San Francisco 49ers drafted Lattimore in the fourth round, the 131st selection overall.

"This is a great opportunity with a great organization and I can't wait to get there," Lattimore said in a statement released by the San Francisco 49ers Twitter account.

Lattimore told the NFL Network he was in a Benihana restaurant when he found out he was drafted.

Draft experts were in unanimous agreement that Lattimore had the talent to be taken the the first round of the draft; what caused Lattimore to fall to a lower spot was his history of injuries.

An injury to his left knee ended his 2011 seaon; an injury to his right, suffered last October, brought a close to the 2012 campaign and his college career.

The most recent injury left him with ligament tears and a dislocated knee. A successful surgery and months of rehabbing down in Florida, though, have put Lattimore perhaps ahead of schedule in his plan to return to the field. Recently, Lattimore said he feels he's on track to play on week one of the upcoming NFL season.

Scouts liked Lattimore's attitude, and seemed impressed last month by his progress at South Carolina's Pro Day, when some of them literally cheered for him after he completed drills. But production matters, and Lattimore did a lot in his time at USC. He had 2,677 career rushing yards, which is sixth in school history. His 41 total touchdowns and 38 rushing touchdowns are both school records.
