Joyce Compton spent 24 years in charge of the USC softball program

Columbia, SC (WLTX) --- Joyce Compton is enjoying retirement.

USC's all-time winningest softball coach has been out of the business for three years since retiring in 2010 as the program's all-time winningest coach.

Compton who spent 24 years in the USC dugout, has made several trips to the new softball stadium.

On Saturday, the coach had the honor of throwing out the ceremonial first pitch prior to the game with Florida.

For years, Compton pleaded with USC athletic officials to upgrade Beckham Field because other SEC programs were surpassing USC in the facilties race.

While some coaches might be bitter over watching someone else enjoy what she had been fighting for, Compton holds no hard feelings, saying she is happy for the current head coach Beverly Smith.

Compton says the players she coached can take pride in being a part of what is going on now with the program.
