Lexington, SC (WLTX) --- Nick Ciuffo continues to rack up awards after a senior season that saw him help lead Lexington to its first 4A state championship since 1999.
Ciuffo has been named the SC Gatorade Player of the Year. He was recently named the state player of the year by the SC High School Baseball Coaches Association.
The award is based on his athletic achievements but also what he has done in the classroom and the community.
Ciuffo has maintained a 3.31 GPA and has volunteered locally as an elementary school student mentor, youth baseball coach and camp counselor and has participated in various charity fundraiser initiatives.
The Lexington catcher has signed with USC but he may never step foot in Carolina Stadium. He is expected to be a top 20 pick in next month's amateur draft and will be in Secaucus, NJ to personally attend the draft.
Regardless of which route he chooses, Ciuffo says his support staff which includes Lexington head coach Brian Hucks - himself a former USC catcher - has kept Ciuffo focused on the challenges ahead and grounded.
