Columbia, SC (WLTX) --- USC women's basketball coach Dawn Staley has been very active in the Midlands community and now, she has organized another effort which she hopes will make a large impact in the lives of some special people.
Staley has launched "Inner Sole" - a movement to bring sneakers to children who are in poverty and can't afford a quality pair of shoes.
The coach hopes when school rolls around in August for these kids, the first steps they take on school grounds will be in a new pair of sneakers.
The Inner Sole sneaker drive will run Monday through Thursday from 9:00 am - 6:00 pm at the USC practice facility. There will be a drop-off area outside the building for people to drop off the sneakers.
Staley was at "Kiki's Chicken and Waffles" Friday night where that business hosted "Jazz Night". The owner of the business, Kiki Smith, is a former USC manager under Staley, so she was more than happy to let Staley kick off the sneaker drive at her restaurant.
