Cayce, SC (WLTX) -- The Cayce Tennis and Fitness Center opened in October 2011, since then it has hosted the U.S.T.A. Jr. Team Tennis National Championships twice.
Now the complex is celebrating another major milestone as they were announced as the 2013 Featured Facility of the Year on Thursday by the United States Tennis Association.
"We were very excited, we knew we had a good chance of winning," said Jorge Andrew, director of operations at the center.
"When we got it, we really let it all out and we are super excited," said Andrew.
Andrew is former pro tennis player himself and he will pickup the award during the U.S. Open in New York.
"This is going to help us bring more tournaments and better tournaments to the area," according to Andrew.
Economically, the award means the potential for more positive exposure for the City of Cayce according to city manager Rebecca Rhodes.
"We think it will bring a number of people to here from out of state and out of our city to come play tennis and hopefully that will mean they will stay here, eat here, and spend the night," said Rhodes.
The center has 30 courts under lights, with seven of those intended for children 8-years old and under, Rhodes believes this shows the commitment the city has made for growth.
"We are serious, we want to recruit people and businesses and we want people to come here and enjoy our facilities," said Rhodes.
Andrew believes this award will not only promote Cayce, but it will also grow the sport he loves.
"This will help the kids become better and at the same time we will be able to create a better base, that way we can have the top players not only in the country, but the world in the future," said Andrew.
Coverage of the U.S. Open begins on WLTX, Labor Day weekend.
