River Bluff head football coach David Bennett will lead his team into several varsity games in 2013
Lexington head football coach Josh Stepp won his first game with the Wildcats in a 27-7 victory over Ridge View
Lexington, SC (WLTX) --- The Lexington Wildcats kicked off the Josh Stepp era last Friday with a 27-7 win over Ridge View.
Stepp is in his first season as the Wildcats' head coach after three years in charge of the Dreher program.
The former Pelion and Newberry College standout says earning the win right off the bat was critical, but won't change the way his team prepares for Blythewood.
About 20 minutes down the road in Lexington County, River Bluff High School is competing as a junior varsity program and on August 28, the Gators played their first football game in history, defeating South Aiken 50-7.
The win was the first for head football coach David Bennett who has experience in starting a program from scratch. He had great success in Conway as the first football coach for Coastal Carolina.
Even though River Bluff is currently a junior varsity program, the Gators are playing a handful of varsity games. Bennett said he wants his players to experience playing on a Friday night, because in 2014, the Gators will play a varsity schedule in Class 4A.
