Charles Waddell Honored As One of "100 to Remember"

Columbia, SC (WLTX)  Charles Waddell, the University of South Carolina Deputy Athletics director will pick up an athletic honor this weekend. 

The North Carolina High School Athletic Association has named him one of the "100 to Remember: Male Athletes" which feature the top 100 male athletes in NCHSAA.

A committee of school administrators and coaches from across North Carolina, as well as sports media, put together the list. 

"Coming up with a list of '100 to Remember' was a tremendous challenge," said Davis Whitfield, commissioner of the NCHSAA.  "So many individuals have participated, coached, or been involved with the rich history and tradition of the first 100 years of the NCHSAA.  This group of distinguished individuals not only served their schools, school systems and communities in an exceptional fashion, but our association as well." 

During the 2013 year, the 100th anniversary is celebrated by the NCHSAA four "100 to Remember" lists have been released. 

The first was administrators, the second was coaches, then female athletes and the male athletes.

Former South Carolina Athletics director Mike McGee also makde the list of male athletes, which also include Jim "Catfish" Hunter, Sonny Jurgensen, Michael Jordan, Meadowlark Lemon, "Pistol" Pete Maravich, Julius Peppers, Gaylord Perry and James Worthy among others.
