(WLTX) --- A pair of USC newcomers have earned SEC Freshman of the Week honors.
Sindarius Thornwell received his first weekly honor after he scored a career-high 25 points in Saturday's loss to LSU.
For the week, Thornwell averaged 17.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists.
Down the hall, the USC women's basketball program is up to eighth in this week's AP Top 25 and the play of freshman Alaina Coates is getting rave reviews.
The former Dutch Fork standout is the SEC Freshman of the Week for the second straight week and third of her career.
Coates averaged 12 points and 11.5 rebounds in wins over Kentucky and Auburn.
She extended her string of double-doubles against SEC opponents to three with 10 points and a South Carolina freshman-record 17 rebounds in the Gamecocks' win over Kentucky Thursday night.
Coates has scored in double figures in six straight games, including every SEC contest of her career.
