Battle For The GameFish Cup Set For July 1

Former Gamecock Trey Dyson will once again lead the USC Alumni as they face the Lexinton County Blowfish.

For the 11th time, the USC Alumni will face the Lexington County Blowfish in a series that is tied at five wins each.

However, the former Gamecocks have won the last three meetings and manager Trey Dyson hopes his guys will be able to execute and bag a fourth straight win in this series. Dyson admits that there's always a chance his guys will come in a little rusty. He just hopes they can generate enough runs and solid pitching on this one night.

"The preparation gets less and less each year, but the wins keep piling up," Dyson noted.

"We have magic within our fingertips, within our hearts, within our souls. the magic of South Carolina baseball. We want to bring that back. It will be back at South Carolina and the first step of it will be on July 1. The magic will come back to South Carolina baseball. We will be back on top again. Not only in this alumni game but we will be back in Omaha very soon."

Dyson announced this year’s roster of Gamecocks will include Matt Price, Tripp Kelly, Garris Gonce, Bryon Jeffcoat, Phil Disher, Bryan Triplett, Hank Parks, Robert Beary, Hunter Privette and Adam Westmoreland. Dyson says Drew Meyer might be available.

The Blowfish will start USC pitcher TJ Shook from Dutch Fork High School. Another current Gamecock, Riley Hogan, will get the start at first base.

The game raises money each year for a worthwhile charity and this year, donations will be taken up for Hands of Hope SC in memory of Owen Walker Caldwell. Owen, son of Craig and Catherine Caldwell, died unexpectedly in his sleep at 14 months old. Dyson is a friend of the Caldwell family and decided to honor Owen's memory while helping a worthwhile organization.

The 11th annual GameFish Cup showdown will begin Saturuday, July 1 at 7:05 p.m. at the Lexington County Baseball Stadium.
