Camp Numbers Show How Far SCSU Basketball Has Come

The South Carolina State Bulldog basketball program is slowly becoming a destination for high school teams in August and the Bulldogs are exposing high school athletes who attend their camps to the full college athlete experience.

ORANGEBURG, SC - Sneakers are still squeaking in college gyms. Saturday in Orangeburg County the South Carolina State men's basketball had their final Elite Camp of the summer.

High school athletes and teams from as for away as West Virginia and Florida were on the floor. Not only was there basketball competition but players also got in some critical film work and what SC State has to offer as a school.

This was a historic day for the Bulldogs. Head coach Murray Garvin remembers when this camp had only 18 players today it had a record 90 entries.

"We've come a long ways in our program and you'll get me emotional sitting here talking about it," Garvin said. Garvin is entering his fifth year as head coach of the Bulldog program.

"From the time that we took over the program here to now have record numbers for our camp it's been a lot of hard work. We've persevered through and I'm delighted to see the turnout and I still believe that the best is yet to come for our program."

Not just the players but coaches also were able to get some reps and experience in a elite camp environment.

"I looked around at our staff today and we have junior college coaches, division 2 coaches, we have guys that work kids out so it's a great opportunity," Garvin added.

On August 12th Garvin will be in the gym giving out backpacks for his final camp of the summer the "Back To School Bash". More more info go here-https://www.coachgarvinshouse.com/garvinsgoal
