Starkville, MS (Sports Network) - Wendell Lewis scored 20 points off the bench
to lead the Mississippi State Bulldogs to a home win over the Texas-San
Antonio Roadrunners, 53-42, at Humphrey Coliseum.
Lewis connected on 8-of-9 shots to lead the Bulldogs (3-5) to their second win
in the last six contests. Craig Sword was the lone starter in double figures
with 13 points.
UTSA (3-5) shot just 27.0 percent from the floor. Kannon Burrage scored a
team-high 15 points but contributed to the poor shooting, missing on 14 of
his 18 shot attempts. Hyjii Thomas chipped in 10 points off the bench.
The Bulldogs led 23-17 at halftime despite just 12 points from their starters.
UTSA shot 24.0 percent from the floor in the opening frame and did not get any
points from its bench.
The Roadrunners kept the score close for the first part of the second half but
trailed 39-29 midway through the half on four straight points by Lewis.
Mississippi State outscored UTSA in the paint, 32-14.
