Jersey City, NJ (Sports Network) - Antoine Mason went 10-of-18 from the field
on his way to a game-high 26 points to help the Niagara Purple Eagles complete
a 77-58 rout of the Saint Peter's Peacocks in a Metro Atlantic Athletic
Conference tilt at the Yanitelli Center.
Juan'ya Green added 19 points and seven assists for the Purple Eagles (8-8,
4-1 MAAC) as they collected their third victory in four outings. T.J. Cline
made an impact on the glass by pulling down a game-high 10 rebounds.
Chris Burke paced the Peacocks (6-9, 1-3) with 17 points after he knocked down
5-of-7 from 3-point range. Patrick Jackson contributed 14 points and Desi
Washington netted 11 points, but Blaise Ffrench went 0-of-5 from the floor to
be held scoreless. Burke and Jackson grabbed six boards each as Saint Peter's
suffered defeat for the third consecutive game.
The Peacocks held a 19-18 lead with 7:24 left in the opening half, but Mason
knocked down a 3-pointer just over a minute later to start a 15-0 run for
Niagara. The Purple Eagles took a 35-23 advantage into the intermission after
scoring 16 points off turnovers and 14 more off of second chance points while
holding the hosts to zero points in each category.
Niagara, which blew a double-digit lead in the second half and lost to Brown
in overtime on Tuesday, managed to keep a comfortable distance on the
scoreboard after the break by hitting 51.2 percent of its field goal attempts
including 5-of-14 from beyond the arc.
The Purple Eagles enjoyed a 38-31 edge in the rebounding battle. Saint Peter's
was unable to use the charity stripe to its advantage as it finished just 1-
of-5 at the free throw line.
