Huntington, WV (Sports Network) - Jalen Jones finished with 19 points and
eight rebounds to lift the SMU Mustangs to a 68-57 decision over the Marshall
Thundering Herd in a Conference USA tilt at the Cam Henderson Center.
Ryan Manual added 17 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the floor for the Mustangs
(12-10, 2-5 C-USA), as they snapped a three-game losing slide. Nick Russell
tallied 15 points and five assists in the winning effort.
D.D. Scarver and Elijah Pittman produced 15 points apiece for Marshall (9-12,
2-4), which dropped its third consecutive decision. DeAndre Kane went just 5-
of-14 from the field en route to 13 points and Dennis Tinnon pulled down a
game-high 17 rebounds.
The Mustangs took a 35-23 lead into halftime after they shot 55.6 percent from
the field and limited Marshall to 29.6 percent shooting in the opening 20
minutes. The Herd held a three-point advantage after five minutes of action,
but SMU scored eight unanswered to go up by double-digits with just three
minutes left before the break.
Marshall outscored the visitors, 16-14, in the second half, but it barely cut
into the deficit as it lost to SMU for the first time in history.
Larry Brown's Mustangs held a 41-35 edge in the rebounding battle and scored
21 points off of MU's 11 turnovers.
