Normal, IL (Sports Network) - Jackie Carmichael registered a double-double of
27 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Illinois State Redbirds to a 79-59
victory over the Bradley Braves in Missouri Valley Conference action at
Redbird Arena.
Tyler Brown chipped in 22 points, eight rebounds and five assists for the
Redbirds (16-10, 7-7 MVC) as they collected their fourth win in a row.
Walt Lemon, Jr. paced Bradley (14-12, 6-8) with 15 points on 6-of-18 shooting
from the floor while Jake Eastman and Tyshon Pickett scored 11 and 10 points,
respectively, in addition to grabbing seven boards apiece. The setback was
the second in a row for the Braves, who defeated ISU, 83-77, at home on Jan.
29.
The opening 20 minutes were closely contested as Illinois State needed to make
all seven of its free-throw attempts to take a 32-31 lead into halftime. The
Braves went into the break trailing despite hitting on 41.9 percent of their
field goal tries in the first half.
Bradley cooled off to convert just 29.4 percent of its shots from the floor
after the intermission. The Redbirds coasted to the victory by going 16-of-27
from the field and also 11-of-13 at the free-throw line in the second half.
Although both sides were guilty of nine miscues, ISU held a 20-4 advantage in
points off of turnovers in the contest.
