Fairfield, CT (Sports Network) - Derek Needham erupted for a game-high 31
points as he guided the Fairfield Stags to a convincing 74-52 win over the
Siena Saints in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action at Webster Bank
Arena.
Needham made good on 8-of-11 shots behind the 3-point line for the Stags
(16-11, 8-7 MAAC) as they won for the sixth time in the last seven outings.
Colin Nickerson filled his stat line with 10 points, nine rebounds, five
assists and a couple of steals for the hosts as well.
The Saints (6-20, 4-11), losers of four in a row, were paced by Evan Hymes
with 14 points, Trenity Burdine 11 and Imoh Silas with 10 points. Most
surprising was the lackluster performance by O.D. Anosike who shot just 1-of-6
from the floor as he finished with five points and six rebounds. Heading into
the night he was averaging 12.8 points and 11.7 rebounds per contest.
Thanks to Needham the Stags opened the meeting on a 22-10 run and never looked
back, posting a 36-23 advantage at the break as the team connected on 8-of-15
beyond the arc through the first 20 minutes.
In the second half Fairfield dipped to just 3-of-10 on the perimeter, but by
then the outcome was never in doubt.
Siena finished the night with almost as many turnovers (16) as field goals
(18).
