Murfreesboro, TN (Sports Network) - Bruce Massey led five players in double
figures with 12 points as the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders wrapped up the Sun
Belt Conference title with an 85-50 rout of South Alabama at the Murphy
Center.
Middle Tennessee (24-4, 16-1 Sun Belt) also got 11 points from Marcos Knight
and Neiko Hunter and 10 points each from Shawn Jones and Kerry Hammonds. The
Blue Raiders have won the Sun Belt regular season title in consecutive seasons
and in three of the last four years. The Blue Raiders have also won 13
straight contests.
Augustine Rubit had a double-double of 13 points and 12 rebounds, Mychal
Ammons added 13 points before fouling out and Trey Anderson chipped in 11
points off the bench for South Alabama (15-10, 12-5) which had a four-game
winning streak snapped.
Middle Tennessee rolled out to a 41-26 lead at the break by holding South
Alabama to just six field goals on 26.1 percent shooting in the first 20
minutes.
After the break the Blue Raiders connected on 48.3 percent from the floor,
including a 7-of-11 effort from beyond the arc, to cruise to victory.
The Blue Raiders forced 23 turnovers which they traded in for 33 points in
the contest.
