Las Cruces, NM (Sports Network) - Kevin Aronis finished with 11 points as the
New Mexico State Aggies downed the Texas-El Paso Miners, 55-51, in a non-
conference meeting at the Pan American Center.
Sy Bandja added 10 points for the Aggies (19-9), while Sim Bhullar pulled down
nine rebounds, as New Mexico State got back on the winning track after seeing
its 12-game winning streak snapped its last time out.
For the Miners (14-12), McKenzie Moore was the sole player in double figures
with 10 points. C.J. Cooper chipped in nine points off the bench.
Neither team shot better than 25 percent from the field in the first half. New
Mexico State shot a woeful 22.7 percent from the field, but it made 2-of-7
from 3-point range and outscored UTEP from the free-throw line, 5-0, which
allowed it to take a 17-14 lead into halftime.
After intermission, both teams heated up from the floor. The Miners shot 63.6
percent from the field, while the Aggies connected on 52 percent of their
shots. A 14-4 run by UTEP gave it a 48-39 lead with just over seven minutes to
play. New Mexico State finished the game strong however, responding with a
16-3 run over the final six minutes to secure the victory.
New Mexico State outrebounded UTEP, 35-27.
