Kansas City, MO (Sports Network) - Julien Lewis finished with 19 points to
lift the seventh-seeded Texas Longhorns to a 70-57 victory over the 10th-
seeded TCU Horned Frogs in the opening round of the Big 12 Conference
Tournament at the Spring Center.
Myck Kabongo tallied 16 points, six assists and four reboounds for Texas
(16-16), which earned a date with the second-seeded Kansas State Wildcats in
Thursday's quarterfinal round. Sheldon McClellan chipped in 12 points for the
Longhorns, who have now won three games in a row.
Connell Crossland paced TCU (11-21) with 11 points and Charles Hill, Jr.
scored 10 points. Devonta Abron contributed nine points and 10 rebounds as TCU
lost its debut in the Big 12 Tournament.
TCU stayed close in the first half by hitting all six of its free-throw
attempts, but the Longhorns shot 45 percent from the floor and sank three
shots from beyond the arc en route to a 28-26 halftime lead.
The Horned Frogs made good on only 32 percent of their field goal tries after
the break. Texas shot 57.9 percent from the floor and went 18-of-20 at the
charity stripe over the final 20 minutes to earn the double-digit margin win.
Texas outscored TCU, 20-12, in the paint.
