Katy, TX (Sports Network) - Taylor Smith shot 7-of-8 en route to 14 points and
11 rebounds to lift the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks over the Southeastern
Louisiana Lions in the semifinals of the Southland Conference Tournament at
the Leonard E. Merrell Center.
Antonio Bostic and Desmond Haymon netted 16 points apiece for Stephen F.
Austin (27-3) which awaits the winner of the other semifinal between Sam
Houston State and Northwestern State. Hal Bateman added 11 points and five
assists in the winning effort.
Onochie Ochie led Southeastern Louisiana (13-18) with 12 points and six
rebounds while Dre Evans chipped in 11 points and Brandon Fortenberry and Todd
Nelson each had 10 points.
Stephen F. Austin jumped out to a 39-25 halftime advantage after shooting 63
percent from the floor while holding the Lions to 43.5 percent. The
Lumberjacks led by as many 22 points and won the rebounding battle, 37-23.
Stephen F. Austin will enter the championship tomorrow having won six straight
contests.
