suffered a 24-10 loss to Bowling Green. Dalton Williams completed 29-of-50
passes for 228 yards and one touchdown. Running back Jawon Chisholm had 100
yards on the ground on 16 carries. Akron had averaged 47 points per game in
its three previous outings. The Zips were held to a season-low 316 yards of
total offense by the Falcons. Akron continues to seek its first MAC victory on
Saturday when it takes on Ohio University, the only remaining unbeaten in the
conference.
BALL STATE: Despite outgaining NIU, 563 total yards to 509, and controlling
the clock for more than 33 minutes, the Cardinals (3-3, 0-2) lost to the
Huskies, 35-23. Keith Wenning continued his impressive junior campaign,
completing a school-record 42-of-71 passes for 434 yards with a touchdown and
two interceptions, and he also added a rushing score. He has now passed for at

in five catches for 93 yards while scoring two touchdowns. BGSU outgained
Akron 472-316 in total yards. The Falcon defense recorded four sacks on the
day, all in the second half, and all coming on third down plays. Bowling Green
looks to make it three in a row on Saturday when it squares off with in-state
rival, Miami-Ohio.
BUFFALO: The Bulls (1-4, 0-2) came up short in their upset effort against Ohio
University and dropped a 38-31 decision to the Bobcats. It was the third
straight defeat for Buffalo, which has yet to pick up a victory in MAC play
this season. Despite being without their star running back Branden Oliver, the
Bulls racked up a season-high 313 yards on the ground against OU's defense
that was allowing just 94 rushing yards per game coming into the contest.
Freshman Devin Campbell gained a career-high 160 yards in his first career
start at tailback. Alex Zordich gained 108 yards on 18 carries to become the
first QB in the school's FBS history to surpass the century mark. The Bulls
have another tough test coming up as they head to DeKalb to try to end NIU's
18-game home winning streak.
CENTRAL MICHIGAN: Late turnovers ended up being the difference in the
Chippewas' (2-3, 0-2) disappointing 50-35 loss to the Toledo Rockets. Ryan
Radcliff was stellar for most of the game, going 28-of-44 passing for 327
yards and four touchdowns, but he also tossed two costly interceptions late in
the contest. Both picks were returned for touchdowns. Zurlon Tipton rushed for
67 yards and a score, while Cody Wilson (108 yards), Titus Davis (97 yards,
TD), and Courtney Williams (59 yards, two touchdowns) all had made impacts in
the aerial attack. The Chippewas will try to end their two-game losing slide
on Friday when they host Navy.
EASTERN MICHIGAN: The Eagles (0-5, 0-2) lost their seventh game in a row
dating back to last season as they were dominated, 41-14, by Kent State.
Bronson Hill gained 70 yards rushing and a touchdown on just four carries.
Demarius Reed led all receivers with 55 yards, and Tyler Benz struggled under
center, completing 9-of-17 passes for 93 yards with a touchdown and two
interceptions. Four-year starting QB Alex Gillett played just three plays in
the contest. The Eagles will have a difficult time avoiding another loss when
they host Toledo on Saturday.
KENT STATE: Dri Archer scored three touchdowns in three different facets of
the game as the Golden Flashes (4-1, 3-0) rolled over the Eastern Michigan
Eagles, 41-14, to remain undefeated in league play. Archer had a rushing,
receiving, and return touchdown in the contest, giving him a total of six
scores over the past two games. Trayion Durham carried the ball 24 times for
116 yards and a pair of scores, while Spencer Keith completed 12-of-21 passes
for 113 yards with a touchdown and an interception. Defensively, KSU had its
best performance of the season as it limited EMU to 200 yards of total
offense. The Golden Flashes step out of the MAC this weekend when they head to
West Point to battle Army.
MASSACHUSETTS: After a display that inspired optimism the week before, the
Minutemen (0-6, 0-3) were dismantled, 52-14, by the Alex Carder-less Western
Michigan Broncos. The loss was the ninth in a row for UMass dating back to
last season. Mike Wegzyn went 12-of-19 passing for 88 yards and he was sacked
four times. Deion Walker hauled in nine catches for 81 yards. WMU outgained
UMass, 551 yards to 218, and it recorded twice as many first downs as the
Minutemen (32 to 16). The Minutemen continue their quest for their first win
as an FBS program next Saturday when they host the Bowling Green Falcons.
MIAMI-OHIO: The RedHawks (3-3, 2-0) were simply overmatched as they were
defeated, 52-14, by the Cincinnati Bearcats. Coming off the first 500-yard
passing and 100-yard rushing game in FBS history in the win over Akron in the
previous week, Zac Dysert threw for 303 yards and two touchdowns on 25-of-49
passing. He was also intercepted three times. The loss ended the program's
brief two-game winning streak. Miami, which is still undefeated in league
action, returns to MAC play on Saturday when it hits to road to face Bowling
Green.
NORTHERN ILLINOIS: Jordan Lynch was unstoppable as he led the Huskies (5-1,
2-0) in their 35-23 triumph over Ball State. Lynch rushed 29 times for 207
yards and three scores and added 195 yards passing and a touchdown as NIU
picked up its fifth consecutive win. Akeem Daniels was the Huskies' leading
receiver with five catches for 78 yards and a score. Lynch's strong
performance gives him an average of 340.7 total yards per game, which is the
best in the MAC and the seventh best in the FBS. NIU will look to extend its
overall winning streak to six games and its home winning streak to 19 games on
Saturday when it hosts Buffalo for MAC action.
OHIO UNIVERSITY: The Bobcats (6-0, 2-0) overcame another deficit to stay
perfect as they held off Buffalo to pick up a 38-31 win. The triumph made Ohio
the first bowl eligible team in the FBS just six games into the season. Tyler
Tettleton led the way by completing 14-of-26 passes for 183 yards and a score.
Tettleton did throw his first interception of the season in the game, which
snapped a streak of 161 attempts without a pick. Beau Blankenship was
productive yet again with a team-high 86 yards with a touchdown on 25 carries.
Ryan Boykin added two touchdowns and 64 yards on just six rushes. Ohio tries
to stay perfect this weekend when it welcomes Akron to Athens for league
action.
TOLEDO: The Rockets (5-1, 3-0) remained unbeaten in MAC play and won for the
fifth straight time as they overcame Central Michigan to earn a 50-35 victory
over the Chippewas. Terrance Owens completed 23-of-33 passes for 229 yards
with zero touchdowns and an interception, but he managed to produce 66 yards
and a pair of scores on the ground. David Fluellen gained 100 yards rushing
and a touchdown on 21 carries, and Bernard Reedy hauled in 10 catches for 92
yards. Toledo's defense came up huge in the final frame a Mark Singler and
Jermaine Robinson each returned interceptions for touchdowns to seal the deal.
The Rockets will try to carry their momentum into this Saturday's road test at
Eastern Michigan.
WESTERN MICHIGAN: Despite being without their star QB, the Broncos (3-3, 1-1)
were impressive as they coasted to a 52-14 victory over the Massachusetts
Minutemen. Tyler Van Tubergen completed 23-of-28 passes for five touchdowns
and rushed for another score to tally a career-high six total touchdowns while
stepping in for the injured Alex Carder. The Broncos rushed for 268 yards,
paced by Brian Fields, who gained 71 yards on 11 carries. Jaime Wilson led all
receivers with 88 yards. WMU's defensive unit had its best outing of the
season, as it set a new season-best, allowing only 218 yards of total offense.
The Broncos, who have won two of their last three, will try to carry their
success on the road as they head to Muncie to challenge Ball State on
Saturday.
