Lafayette, LA (Sports Network) - Terra Broadway threw a pair of touchdowns and
ran for another as he helped guide the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns to a commanding
52-30 win over the South Alabama Jaguars in Sun Belt Conference play at Cajun
Field.
Broadway finished the contest 11-of-19 through the air for 305 yards, adding
another 65 yards on 13 rushing attempts for the Ragin' Cajuns (7-4, 5-2 Sun
Belt) as they posted their second straight win and the third in the last four
outings. Effrem Reed accounted for a game-high 81 yards and two scores on 17
carries.
The Jaguars (2-10, 1-7), losers of five in a row, were paced by Ross Metheny
who converted 27-of-44 passes for 360 yards and two touchdowns.
USA scored the first points of the meeting when Jlian Valentin capped an
eight-play, 75-yard opening drive with a one-yard TD run to give the visitors
a 7-0 advantage.
However, the rest of the quarter belonged to Louisiana as kicker Brett Baer
knocked through a 27-yard field goal, Broadway hooked up with Harry Peoples on
a 75-yard TD pass and Reed slipped into the end zone on a 19-yard run to give
the Ragin' Cajuns a 17-7 advantage.
The Jaguars fought back in the second frame thanks to kicker Michel Chapuseaux
who converted field goal attempts of 45, 33, and 50 yards in the period to
bring the team to within a point of Louisiana.
But before the first half could draw to a close, Broadway found Javone Lawson
with a 27-yard TD strike to make the score 24-16 at the break.
Louisiana added a pair of touchdowns in the third, courtesy of a one-yard run
by Reed and a six-yard run by Broadway, pushing the advantage to 38-16.
Ross made the score more respectable with a 23-yard touchdown pass to Jereme
Jones late in the third and a 28-yard scoring pass to Gabe Loper midway
through the fourth as well.
Unfortunately for USA, the Ragin Cajuns responded both times as Blaine Gautier
tossed an 18-yard TD to Jacob Maxwell and a one-yard scoring run from Yobes
Walker to close out the affair and give the home team the 22-point win.
The 52 points for the Ragin' Cajuns is the most the team has scored since
posting a 59-30 win over North Texas on Oct. 11, 2008.
Both teams still have one more game on the schedule this season as the Jaguars
pay a visit to Hawaii next weekend and Louisiana travels to Florida Atlantic.
