Former Clemson Golfer Has Strong Start At The Greenbrier

After watching Kyle Stanley win the Quicken Loans National, Ben Martin has to be thinking why not make it two straight victories on the PGA Tour for golfers from the Larry Penley-coached program.

The former Clemson All-American shot a 6-under 64 in round one of The Greenbrier Classic. He ended the day three shots back of the lead.

Another former Tiger golfer, Jonathan Byrd, shot a 2-under 68. The Spring Valley graduate has been playing on the Web.com Tour but this week, he is in the field for the PGA Tour event in White Sulphur Springs.

Bishopville native Tommy "Two Gloves" is another gofler currently on the Web.com Tour. Gainey is making his second PGA Tour start of 2017 and he was even par in round 1. Both Byrd and Gainey need to be in red figures Friday in order to have a shot at playing the weekend. Right now, the cut line is at minus-1.

Former Gamecock Mark Anderson from Beaufort was 2-under par on his round.
