Friends and Family Remember Max Runager

Orangeburg native Max Runager, who passed away at the age of 61, was remembered at a service Thursday in his home town.

Thursday morning just outside of Orangerburg, the Dukes Harley Funeral Home Chapel was filled to capacity as family and friends gathered for a memorial service in honor of Max Runager.

The former USC and NFL punter passed away earlier this week at the age of 61.

Runager starred in the league for 11 seasons and current O-W head football coach Tommy Brown says Max enjoyed passing along his knowledge with a heavy dose of humility.

''He was a guy who you would have never known he was an NFL superstar and actually played in Super Bowls," Brown said.

"He always came back and helped with our kicking game. Our success has been because of the type of athletes and people that come from Orangeburg-Wilkinson High School."
