LSU Takes Game One 5-2

Columbia, SC --- LSU right-hander Kevin Gausman hurled a complete game and was backed by homers from Mason Katz and Jordy Snikeris as the ninth ranked Tigers defeated second ranked South Carolina 5-2 in game one of a doubleheader at Carolina Stadium.

Freshman shortstop Joey Pankake paced South Carolina with two hits on the day, with three other Gamecocks collecting hits on the afternoon. Katz and Snikeris led the LSU offense with two hits apiece. Raph Rhymes and JaCoby Jones also posted multi-hit games for LSU as well.

Gausman (9-1) went all nine innings and earned the win for the Tigers, allowing just five hits and two runs, while striking out six. Gamecock starter Michael Roth (5-1) took the loss for the first time this season, pitching eight innings and allowing three runs on 10 hits.
