Omaha, NE (WLTX) - The USC baseball team spent Friday getting in their last bit of preparation before they begin playing in this year's College World Series.

The team took in batting practice and went through other drills at Creighton University in Omaha.

The Gamecocks seemed loose and confident, like a team ready for the challenge of three-peating. But their first obstacle may be their toughest--a game against top seed Florida.

Even though USC's the two-time defending champions, USC Head Coach Ray Tanner doesn't see much of a margin between the teams.

"I don't think that there's any particular edge," he said. "They may be better than us as far as talent is concerned. they're the number one seed, the top ranked team in the country. We know we're going to have to play really well."

Tanner will throw at the Gators his ace, senior pitcher Michael Roth.

"I know they're a great hitting team, they've been swinging the bats well lately," said Roth. "Hopefully I can keep them off balance."

USC went 1-2 against the Gators in their only season series, played back in March.

"We're the underdogs," Tanner said. "But it's still baseball. At the end of the day if we can get one to fall or get a bloop or something, get a tremendous pitching performance from Roth, than our chances are better. You can't go into a game with the Gators and not be at your best and expect to win. That's what we're going to try to do."

The two teams play at 9 p.m. Saturday.
